Well, it appears that our database servers performed much better while the personal pages were off.  Not only was the database happier but we saw a significant increase in traffic to WinCustomize because there were less problems.  So its good that we have seen our traffic increase.   But its bad because it means there is a problem with the personal pages that is causing significant database congestion.

So here is the plan.  Later today (around 3:00) we plan on turning...

Pageflakes is a personalized start page with email checking, movie finder, RSS feeds and various other features. In other words, think of it as a webpage where users can easily add gadgets (or flakes as they call them) to a page making news and information readily available. Pageflakes, using AJAX technology, is completely customizable allowing you to move your flakes any wher...

Paul Boyer announces his new podcast site, Under The Skin:

Under The Skin: (We have a home!)

Last week we recorded our first episode of  the new Skinning Podcast, Under the Skin. My original plan was to host it on my Wincustomize.com website. This was a bit of a cheap solution because I was concerned about the cost of bandwidth. However, once again, Stardock has stepped in to give me a hand.
Under the Skin, will now be part of the PowerUser.tv "network". We will have our own h...

For those stat fanatics who keep track of all their stats we have just added a new download stat.  The old system reported the total number of downloads, but actually that number really represented something closer to the total number of unique downloads.  We have now added a new stat that shows the Total Number of download attempts.  What does this mean?  If you download a skin more than once the download stat would generally only increment once.  The new stat counts bo...

A letter from Joh6nn, the newest member of Coolplayers development team:

Hi All. I'm joh6nn, the newest member of Coolplayer's dev team.

There are currently a number of problems surrounding skinning Coolplayer. Probably the biggest one is that the UI for skinning the playlist is currently broken. A close second would be that Coolplayer has two completely different skinning systems: one for the player itself, and a separate one for the playlist. I'd like to fix as many of the skinning is...

I finally became tired of creating a complete listing of all the new WinCustomize Personal Skinning Pages so I finally took the initiative and create an index page that will list all the sites that our skinners have created.  If you look up in the link bar above you will see a new addition "Site Index".  Click on it to check out the listing of the new personal pages.

As a massive hurricane surges toward the East Coast, Red Cross is appealing for emergency donations.
All eyes are on the path of Hurricane Isabel. Who knows how destructive and expensive this storm will be?
The Red Cross is mobilizing staff and lifesaving relief — food, water, shelter, and other aid, but our Disaster Relief Fund is empty.
Donations have been down sharply based on various factors including the rough economy. From July 1, 2002, to June 30, 2003, the Red Cross spent $1...

The WinCustomize Library is temporally closed for non subscribers while our ISP moves our server to a new network segment. We do not have an ETA on when it will be back online but hope that we will return to full service shortly.

Thank you for your understanding.
