On Wednesday June 7th, 2006 3:00am EST we will be taking most webservers off line wile we upgrade our primary database system.  The outage is planned to last a minimum of 3 hours and it is possible that it could last longer.

Sites and services that will be affected are:

desktopgadgets.com
forums.stardock.com (all forum servers)
galciv1.com
galciv2.com
joeuser.com
politicalmachine.com
poweruser.tv
societygame.com
totalgaming.net
wincustomize.com (and WC Personal Pages)
xpthemes.com

Product Activation
Stardock Central
WinCustomize Browser
Blog Navigator
GalCiv 1 & 2 Metaverse Submissions

By moving the database to a new server and new software we hope to have a significant gain in performance on our websites that interact with the database (which is most sites).  Where we hope to see the largest gain in performance will be with the initial page loads, logons and all forum based systems.

We apologize for the inconvenience but we hope that this update will improve your browsing experience on our websites.

OK this 'bug' appears to be due to the main image server failing last week ( i believe) and the backup server is not up to date. You may well notice that there are a few other missing images and image errors until the update has finished.

For people who are not living inside the EST timezone, here is a link to the "Fixed time around the world". You can find the corresponding time in your timezone by looking for a city near you:

Please spend the downtime working on a spiritual successor to X-Com: UFO Defense.

To make a true successor to X-Com: UFO Defense, you need aliens. No living human have the ability to recreate that one, because all their nifty ideas, based on contemporary influences, leads to a bad execution.

Even the original creators started to drift... It is not possible.
